Lone Workers: Managing Behaviours of Distress & Breakaway Course

Delivered at your venue, this course includes: recognising behaviours of distress, why some people exhibit it, how to avoid it and some easy strategies to deal with it.

The course covers the following areas:

  • Safety considerations and risk assessment, when visiting a service user
  • Understanding anger, aggression and violence
  • Recognising triggers, fear and how they affect actions
  • Identifying ‘What are behaviours of distress?’
  • Avoiding behaviours of distress
  • Understanding how fear affects the body when faced with the need to use defensive skills
  • Recognising signs of escalation
  • Using communication skills to de-escalate a situation
  • Understanding the law in relation to ‘reasonable force’, Self Defence and Physical Intervention
  • Practice effective disengagement and breakaway techniques, for when de-escalation has failed
  • Post incident procedure

Course information

  • One day course
  • All delegates successfully completing the course will receive a certificate.
  • Refresher training should be completed annually.
