Physical intervention is a framework focused on preventing and safely managing violence or aggression through risk assessment, de-escalation, and, where unavoidable, safe physical responses.
Breakaway techniques are non-restrictive skills that enable staff to safely release from grabs or holds, create space, and move to safety without restraining the individual.
NHS and CQC regulated services require Physical Intervention training for staff to be Bild ACT and Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) certified.
Intelligensa is a Bild ACT and Restraint Reduction Network (RRN)-certified training provider, delivering high-quality, ethical, and restraint-reduction focused training you can trust.

All staff in NHS-commissioned or CQC-regulated services who may use physical interventions (PMVA) are required to receive training that is Bild ACT and Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) certified. This requirement applies to permanent, temporary, and agency staff.
This ensures that:
- Staff are trained in safe, lawful, and proportionate physical intervention techniques
- Services comply with NHS Standard Contract requirements and CQC Regulation 18 (Staff Training)
- Staff and service users are protected, and risk is minimised
